Many herb information sources state that Red Clover is high in estrogen. Some sources say its pretty high, some say its a not to worry amount. But in fact – the Red Clover Plant is only** starts to produce estrogen as a survival mechanism for when the sheep feed heavily on it. So the estrogen compounds act basically as a contraceptive to the sheep, which brings down the population over time and eventually reducing the damage from overfeeding and then restoring the natural balance within the ecosystem!
Not only that, but the nearby clover field plants (with no livestock) can “anticipate” the danger and can begin to produce the same hormone-mimicking compound simply because they’ve been already “informed” from the close plant community!
And once the threat has been reduced – so is the production of estrogen!
Plants really are amazing! 🙂
I have lots of clover growing wild on our land and in my garden. I also am lucky to have wild clover growing all over our property and nearby lands, that I have access to. With no livestock around. 🙂
