I extracted my organic Vanilla Essence through a cold process method to ensure it develops and preserves the rich and delicate flavors.
Most Homemade Vanilla Extract recipes call for 3 whole vanilla beans per 1 cup (8 oz) vodka proportions.
I used 4 vanilla beans to 1 cup of vodka. After a few months of occasionally shaking the jars, I blended and strained them for a creamier and richer taste. Compared to other methods and ratios I’ve tried in the past, this yields a much more concentrated and fragrant Vanilla Essence.
Shake well before each use. You can add a new sliced vanilla bean and then add more vodka as you continue to use it. This way you will have a continuous supply of vanilla essence.
INGRÉDIENTS I used:
Organic Sugar Cane Vodka and Organic Gourmet Bourbon Vanilla Beans – (links to where I purchased the ingredients, not affiliate links)
from a 100% organic USDA-certified source
Gluten-Free.
Sterilized Equipment and Bottling (Please, reuse, recycle.)
Gourmet Bourbon Vanilla Extract is considered the premium of pure vanilla extracts and is used as a fragrance and flavoring agent. Vanilla bean is actually not a bean it’s a fruit of a tropical orchid, the only orchid in the world that produces fruit. The orchid blooms only for a day and has to be hand pollinated, and then they have to be checked daily as they must be harvested at the right ripening stage. After that, the beans go through a very labor-intensive and time-consuming curing process to maximize their flavor.
Vanilla Shortage
The Vanilla market has been in a downward spiral, the crops during harvest have been short for 3 years straight and the current yield for this year’s harvest was at only 50%. This has caused raw material costs to skyrocket and organic beans are nearly impossible to find. A significant shortage of material in the market is causing the price to increase significantly.
But maybe we should stop asking why real food is so expensive, and start asking why processed food is so cheap.
Vanilla Bean Benefits:
