St.John’s Wort tincture
This tincture is made with wild St.John’s wort flower buds that grow on our land. The process is tedious and long because you have to “catch” the tiny buds right before they open up. At that growing stage, they contain the most amount of hypericin and other active compounds. They have to be picked every day, right after the morning due is dried out, then wilted a little, and then added to high proof alcohol.

Safety considerations: Not to be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If taking the herb high doses in medicinal levels, it can increase “photosensitivity”. The great majority of the concerns that have come up over St John’s wort relate to its ability to interact with drugs and, by far, the main reason for this is that it increases the body’s ability to metabolize and excrete the drug. In other words, by virtue of helping the body’s natural process of detoxification, St John’s can render drugs less effective.
A woman who was using the contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy should not take St John’s wort, as it will decrease the effectiveness of the pill, or she should use a further method of contraception as well.
